Shishu Vihar
Shishu Vihar is Chinmaya Mission’s latest creative venture. Aiming to “catch them young”, it is a forum to instil strong ethical values in children under the age of 4. Indian tradition understands the significance of sowing seeds early, even as early as the pre-natal stage. Shishu Vihar introduces toddlers to basic concepts that enable spiritual development through cultural education.Classes follow the structure of a modern play group where infants and toddlers, accompanied by their mothers, learn basic concepts through songs, stories and arts and crafts, in a manner appropriate to their age and development. Several props involving an extensive array of colours, shapes and forms, are used to relay the information to the infants
The little ones have already demonstrated a quick ability to learn and strong retention powers, with even three year olds being able to chant the Hanuman Chalisa! The accompanying mothers take the rhymes and stories home and aid in embedding these strongly in the tender minds.
Shishu Vihar classes have been running successfully in America, Australia and South East Asia for the last two years. A training course for Shishu Vihar Sevaks was conducted in August 2013 at Chinmaya Sagar, Mumbai, by Swamini Supriyananda, with the aim of starting Shishu Vihar classes in Andheri, South Mumbai and Matunga. A very first in India, it is aimed to spread the program throughout the nation thus promoting an individual’s spiritual development right from infancy.

Balvihar Magazine
The Chinmaya Mission's Kids Magazine, Balvihar was created in order to link children of Bala Vihars all over India and the world so that the children could, through its pages, share common bonds of love, learning and laughter. In his message for the inaugural issue of the Balvihar magazine, Swami Chinmayananda wrote, “We shall, through this journal, build bridges of love and understanding between children everywhere, and we shall learn to create a greater world out of what our parents have given us now.”
Balvihar has been serving children, parents, and grandparents for over 38 years now. It's current worldwide circulation is over 40,000. June 2013 was a milestone in the magazine’s history as it won the ICE (In-house Communication Excellence) Award for the ‘best magazine among NGOs’.
An inspiring story, a powerful idea, a catchy poem or an enchanting picture remains etched as an abiding memory in growing minds. It is, therefore, important to provide children with a strong value system, right from the beginning, so that they grow up to be responsible, honest, courageous and forthright citizens of tomorrow. Balvihar gives youngsters a solid and durable foundation of ethics and right thinking in their receptive years by its excellent combination of reading and learning with fun, love and laughter.
The Balvihar magazine:
- provides children with new, interesting and stimulating articles on Indian culture and sacred stories on a regular basis
- is full of poems, riddles, jokes and quizzes
- motivates children to read, think and write originally and creatively
- encourages and develops a life-long habit of reading

Little Yash is filled up
By Swamini Supriyananda
In his book I LOVE YOU - Letters to Children, Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda explains lucidly the most profound truths about how love enhances and even sustains our life. He emphasises that while each of us naturally seeks love, in the process we often forget that it is actually ours to give. And it is only in giving that we truely receive; only in actively reaching out to others do we really find fulfilment within. This time-tested, insighful message is the inspiration for the story Little Yash Is Filled Up. Because of their innate simplicity and sensitivity, children are often more receptive than adiults to such ideas, and if they imbibe them in their formative years, then those ideas become an integral part of their personality.

Gita for children
Swami Chinmayamananda
Bharati Sukhtankar
A Mentor to national leaders like Lokmanya Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave, Aurobindo, Madan Mohan Malaviya; a companion to western thinkers like Albert Einstein, Herman Hesse, Carl Jung, Aldous Huxley; and a mother to great saints like Adi Shankaracharya, Vivekananda, Madhvacharya; the Bhagavad- gita can now be a friend to your child. The pioneer proponent of the Bhagavad-gita in modern times, Swami Chinmayananda, views the Bhagavad-gita as the edifice upholding the Indian philosophy and culture, and as a guide in times, good and bad. Thus the Bhagavad-gita is a powerful tool for personal empowerment and social change. In Gita for Children, the 18 chapters of the Bhagavad-gita are simplified by the Gita expert, Swami Chinmayananda. A detailed summary of each chapter is given, important verses selected and doubts cleared, for elders to explain the ideas to the children. While thus reading the book to the children, elders will find an insightful initiation into the Gita wisdom and children will find a loving friend in Lord Krishna, making the Gita experience richer, personal and valuable.

Bala Bhagavatam
Swami Chinmayananda
From childhood onwards the Hindu heart beats in unison with the childhood stories of Lord Krishna. Stories from the tenth chapter of the Bhagawat are retold in simple language and hold an appeal for children and elders alike.
Bala Ramayana
Swami Chinmayananda
The story of Rama never becomes stale even though told a thousand times. It awakens a sense of wonder and evokes a sense of reverence for the divine. Specially retold for children, the style is racy and keeps their interest alive.
I Love You Letters to Children
Swami Chinmayananda
This is a collection of letters that flowed from the pen of Swami Chinmayananda, seated in the Uttarkashi ashram on the banks of the river Ganga, as she flowed down to sanctify the hills and dales of Mother India. Though addressed to children in a simple language, the depth of thoughts in these letters has inspired the young and old alike all over the world for the last four decades. It is an incisive analysis of the nature of love and also a poetic assertion of the divinity of love. We are shown how to 'rise in love', instead of just 'falling in love'' how to shower others with love instead of just whining about lack of love, how to expand and embrace the entire creation in a joyous vision of oneness that knows no barriers of 'I' and 'Your'.
Parables
Swami Chinmayananda
It is commonly mentioned, "What the sword cannot do, a needle can.” At times when the subtle wisdom of the scriptures may seem to overpower us intellectually, parables are able to imbibe in us the same subtle ideas and concepts. The practical manner in which these stories are presented, make learning a more joyous experience. This book is a collection of parables as written by Swami Chinmayananda. Within each tale lies a fountain of wisdom to drink from and refresh ourselves.
My Children
Swami Chinmayananda
Swami Chinmayananda reveled in interacting with children revealing his wisdom through his loving playfulness. Photographs of Swamiji with children from around the world are accompanied by quotes from his works. Hailed as the second Swami Vivekananda, Swami Chinmayananda (1916-1993), has left a great legacy behind for mankind. On realising the true purpose of life he worked tirelessly and with tremendous energy for more than four decades to spread the message of Vedanta. A great writer, leader, patriot and spiritual giant: He brought about a spiritual renaissance of the Vedantic heritage to the world. A powerful orator with his own brand of wit and humour; he paints vividly the wisdom of the ages in front of us. His commentary on the Bhagavad Geeta and Upanishads are considered one of the best ever for their clarity and crisp logic.
